He jumped into the freedom struggle of the country at the age of 16-17. Shastri ji was greatly influenced by the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi. He considered her as his role model.

During this time Lal Bahadur Shastri appointed the first woman as a conductor to improve and promote the status of women in the country and to reserve seats for women in transport.
Along with this, he made a rule to control the crowd with water cannon apart from lathi-charging the police to control the crowd. After the constitution came into force, the first general elections were held in the country and India became a democratic and secular republic.
During this time Lal Bahadur Shastri ji was handling the party front as the General Secretary of the Congress Party. During this, he campaigned fiercely for the Congress party, after which the Congress party won with a huge majority. In 1952, the country's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru appointed Lal Bahadur Shastri as the Minister of Railways and Transport in his cabinet.
