Yash was born as Naveen Kumar Gowda on 8 January 1986. He was born in a Kannada speaking community in Bhubaneswar, a village near Hassan in Karnataka. 
His father Arun Kumar J worked as a driver in KSRTC Transport Services and later in BMTC Transport Services and mother, Pushpa, is a homemaker. He has a younger sister Nandini.
