Kapil Dev Ramlal Nikhanj, commonly known as Kapil Dev, is a former Indian cricketer. He was born on January 6, 1959 in Chandigarh, India. Kapil Dev is widely regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game. He is considered as the greatest fast bowler India has ever produced. Kapil Dev played for the Indian cricket team from 1978 to 1994.

Kapil Dev made his international debut in 1978 against Pakistan and quickly established himself as one of the best all-rounders in the world. He was known for his ability to swing the ball both ways and his aggressive captaincy. He was a powerful lower-order batsman, known for his hook shot. He also held the record for the most wickets taken by a fast bowler in test cricket for a long time.

In his debut series against Pakistan, Kapil Dev took 13 wickets in 3 matches and also scored crucial runs with the bat. He quickly became a key player in the Indian team, known for his aggressive and competitive spirit on the field.

In 1983, Kapil Dev led India to their first World Cup victory, and he was also the man of the match in the final, where India defeated the West Indies. This achievement is considered one of the greatest moments in Indian cricket history, and Kapil Dev's leadership and performances throughout the tournament were instrumental in India's success.

Throughout his career, Kapil Dev established himself as one of the best all-rounders in the world, known for his ability to take wickets and score runs in crucial moments. He was the first player to take 400 wickets in test cricket, which he achieved in 1994. He also took 253 wickets in ODI's, which at that time was the most by any player.

After his retirement, Kapil Dev has been actively involved in cricket commentary and coaching. He has also written a number of books on cricket. He was also appointed as a member of the Indian Cricket team selection committee.

In 2002, Kapil Dev was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame and in 2010, he was awarded the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement award for his contribution to Indian cricket. His contribution to Indian cricket was also acknowledged with the civilian award of Padma Shri in 1982 and Padma Bhushan in 1991.

Kapil Dev's career is one of the most illustrious in the history of Indian cricket.
